About the GROW ListServ

The Genetics Resources On the Web Listserv (GROW-L) is now being managed by NCHPEG and hosted by RSi Communications. The ListServ sends periodic updates on timely genetics resources and publications via E-Mail, courtesy of the National Human Genome Research Institute.

What is a ListServ?

  • Acronym Definition - List Server (bulk e-mail protocol)
  • Definition - An automatic mailing list server developed by Eric Thomas for BITNET in 1986. When e-mail is addressed to a LISTSERV mailing list, it is automatically broadcast to everyone on the list. The result is similar to a newsgroup or forum, except that the messages are transmitted as e-mail and are therefore available only to individuals on the list.

How to Join

There are two ways to join:

  • OPTION 1
    Send and E-mail message to the GROW ListServ in the following format.
    ***NOTE Please Replace the "<first name> <last name>" with your first and last name.
    ex... "John Smith"
     
    To: LISTSERV@GENETICSRESOURCES.ORG
    Subject: SUBSCRIBE
    Body: JOIN GROW <first name> <last name>

    You will then receive a series of messages back that will take you the rest of the way through the simple subscription    process and introduce you to the listserv features.
  • OPTION 2
    Please tell us your first name:
      
    Please tell us your last name:

To send a message to GROW-L subscribers, address your mail to GROW@LISTSERV.GENETICSRESOURCES.ORG.

To copy yourself on messages that you send to the listserv, send an email with "SET GROW REPRO" (case sensitive) in the subject line to LISTSERV@LISTSERV.GENETICSRESOURCES.ORG.

To receive a brief acknowledgement that your message has been sent to the listserv, send an email with "SET GROW ACK NOREPRO" (case sensitive) in the subject line to LISTSERV@LISTSERV.GENETICSRESOURCES.ORG.

To receive no acknowledgement of sent mail, send an email with "SET GROW NOACK NOREPRO" (case sensitive) in the subject line to LISTSERV@LISTSERV.GENETICSRESOURCES.ORG.

GROW-L messages are automatically archived. Visit the GROW-L website at http://listserv.geneticsresources.org and select the Subscribers Center - List archives option to review old messages.
